What are Cluster dextrin and Maltodextrin?

Both of these are carbohydrates sources. While maltodextrin is more commonly found in processed foods, both can be found in sports drinks providing a source of energy to the consumer.

What are their main differences?

While both cluster dextrin and maltodextrin are derived from starch, their structural differences means they cause unique responses in the body. Maltodextrin, with its linear structure, is digested and absorbed very quickly, and therefore often causes a sharp spike in insulin. Unlike Cluster dextrin with its ring structure, allowing for a slower, more sustained release of energy without causing significant spikes in blood sugar or insulin levels.
